Realizing Benefits of Gender Diversity Workshop
ACS BIOT Will be hosting a workshop entitled "Realizing the Benefits of Gender Diversity to Science and Organizations" at the ACS Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. This workshop will be held Tuesday afternoon from 5-6:30 PM. We are asking those interested in attending the workshop to register so organizers can provide materials and a short (1hr) assignment to be completed before the workshop. Workshop Summary:
Research shows that gender diversity leads to better science (**) and improved business outcomes (++). Yet the lack of gender diversity in the leadership ranks of organizations persists (##). The lack of gender diversity in leadership ranks means organizations are leaving performance potential on the table. It is in the best interest of the economy and scientific progress to close this gender leadership gap. This workshop will ask you to put your thinking caps on to brainstorm actions that address the most pressing challenges to closing the gender leadership gap. All participants will be surveyed at the end of the workshop for input on next steps and follow-up meetings. Immediate benefits to those who register for this workshop include exclusive access to twelve 5-minute educational videos as background and context and an opportunity (optional) to shape the agenda for the workshop. The workshop organizer and professional facilitator will solicit pre-session input based on these videos to design the workshop and welcome input from others who register. All participants will get a copy of the workshop results.

Engagement Purpose:
Generate ideas to address key barriers that limit female participation at scientific conferences and in leadership positions so that the benefits of gender diversity to science and organizational performance can be realized.

Engagement Objectives:
1. Identify barriers that limit female participation in scientific conferences and in leadership positions
2. Identify ways to address the key barriers that limit female participation in scientific conferences and leadership positions
3. Energize participants to take personal action to increase female participation in scientific conferences and leadership positions
4. Interest participants to stay engaged and spread the word for future follow-up meetings
