Balloon-Free UVA Graduation 2018
Green Greeks and the Office for Sustainability are teaming up to encourage graduates to go balloon-free for graduation as balloon releases have a series of adverse environmental consequences for many species. Both marine species and terrestrial animals often mistake balloons as food, leading to a blocking of the digestive track and an inability to take in any nutrients. Various species also get entangled in balloon ribbon which inhibits movement and flexibility.

We know balloons can be an exciting addition to graduation ceremonies, but swap it out for alternative instead: try garden spinners or bubble blowers! These are great ways to stand out and celebrate without impacting the environment around us.
