The role of external reviewers is to evaluate the quality and relevance of submitted papers. Reviewers in all areas of expertise and disciplines are welcome. When you are selected to be an external reviewer for a manuscript, you will have 5 days to accept or decline the request to review. If you accept the request you will have approximately 3-4 weeks to complete the review. Final decisions about the acceptance or rejection of an article for publication in FIRE is informed by external reviews, but is exclusively decided by the FIRE editors.
Reviewers may be requested to review manuscripts up to four times per year. Reviewers who consistently provide excellent reviews and respond promptly to the editorial requests for review are considered for invitation to the FIRE Editorial Advisory Board.
FIRE uses a double-blind peer review process in which authors do not know they identity of their reviewers, nor do the reviewers know the identities of the authors. If a submitted manuscript is judged by the FIRE editorial team as inappropriate for FIRE's readership, it will not be externally reviewed. After the external review is complete, the FIRE editors' decision, with comments from the reviewers, is emailed to the corresponding author.
Thank you for volunteering to serve as an external reviewer for FIRE!
