In 2011, ICA launched the only mentoring program for young people in South Queens. We engaged experts from the social work field, education and youth development to create a one-on- one mentoring program that combines leadership cultivation, academic assistance and career exploration. The Mentoring Program provides individual attention to students and recent immigrants by focusing on academic assistance, early-stage career planning and social development. We pair each student with a mentor who spends a minimum of 8 hours every month working on specific development goals. The curriculum is designed to encourage students to think critically about themselves and about some of the most pressing issues in the community.
