Hello Girls Rock Philly Friends!
The 8th annual Girls Rock Philly summer camp is swiftly approaching, and we're working on putting together the best one yet. Camp this year is from August 4th-10th at The Thomas Campus of Mastery Charter Schools, at 927 Johnston Street in South Philadelphia.
Are you interested in leading a workshop at camp? Then tell us about it! We’re looking for workshops that embrace this year's theme, "From Where We Stand!" and encourage campers to explore their perspectives using music as their telescope. Starting with the self and looking further outward each day, we hope campers will gain a fuller understanding of their personal "views” and experiences and how they are part of the greater world.
Exploring self, family (given & chosen), communities, our city, our country, our world, and even our galaxy, we are soliciting workshops to help our campers:
- gain a greater sense of their own and other's perspectives
- use music as a tool to communicate their unique perspectives
- harness their power change the world around them!
Examples of workshops that fit this theme might include those that explore personal narratives and friendships, tips on touring with your band or how to start a distro, instruction on how to produce a podcast, or an exploration of the science of sound. Ultimately, we are seeking proposals that challenge campers to answer the questions, "What's my view? Where do I stand? Who do I stand with?"
So, please use the following form to:
1) Propose a workshop you would like to lead. We'd like to encourage you to approach this as the expert you are and think about the particular skills you have to share with our campers.
2) Suggest workshops you would like to see at camp but may not want to lead. (Scroll down for the workshop suggestion section.)
*Please feel free to collaborate on workshops and proposals.
*GRP divides campers by age (9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-17). Each age group has approximately 15-20 campers, and attends workshops as a group. You can give a workshop to one or two age groups in particular, or to all 4. For some helpful tips on age based learning styles, click

*Be sure your workshops have lots of interactive components -- this is summer camp, not study hall!
*We hope to provide our presenters with the A/V equipment they need (computers, projectors, etc).
Rock on!
We're asking for proposals by June 20.
Best,
The GRP Education and Empowerment Committee

About GRP: Girls Rock Philly works hard to foster a space for participants to come together and build community based on shared experiences and sharing experiences. We ask that workshops promote our mission to empower our participants through music education and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. When writing your proposal, try to incorporate ways our campers can share and listen, as well as collaborate.
