Information to participants
Technology is a critical part of your experience in higher education. This survey asks you about what technology you currently own, how you use it and your expectations of technolgy use in higher education. This survey should take you 15 - 20 minutes to finish. It will ask you questions about your expereinces with and attitude towards technology and its relationship to your experiences as a student. There are no right or wrong answers. We would just like you to answer as honestly as possible. You are completing this survey as part of completing the subject: CS1022 Learning in a digital environment.

You are invited to take part in a research project designed to gauge student’s digital readiness and test the effectiveness of an eLearning program for digital literacy instruction. The study is being conducted by Dr. Kathryn Meldrum and Dr Rhian Morgan at James Cook University.

If you agree to be involved in the study, you will be invited to be complete two surveys designed to evaluate how effective the eLearning program is at improving student digital literacy. The first survey will take place in-class (CS1022) and be supervised by a JCU staff member who is not involved in teaching within your diploma subjects. The second survey will take place once you have completed the subject’s online digital literacy lessons. This survey will also be conducted in-class and be supervised by a non-diploma staff member. The surveys should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. With your consent, the survey results will inform the evaluation and further development of JCU’s online digital literacy curriculum.

Taking part in this study is completely voluntary and you can stop taking part in the study at any time without explanation or prejudice. Participation in this study is in no way related to student attendance, assessment or grading performance for the subject CS1022 Learning in a Digital Environment or the Diploma of Higher Education.

Your responses and contact details will be strictly confidential. The data from the study will be used in research publications and reports. You will not be identified in any way in these publications.
