World Cares Center continues to assist Staten Island residents as they work to recover their homes and communities after Superstorm Sandy. This week, City Connexx joins us in Staten Island to provide assistance to community hubs, points of distribution, senior centers, and private residences.
Community hubs and points of distribution have been crucial to the continued relief and recovery of affected Staten Island communities. Many residents continue to rely on these locations for basic supply needs, information, resources, and general support. In an effort to best support our community partners, WCC will assign volunteers to perform various service tasks at these sites including:
• receiving and sorting donations
• restocking supply
• greeting and assisting homeowners
• basic clean-up and maintenance tasks.
Affected communities demonstrate a continued need for assistance cleaning up the homes and residential centers. While World Cares Center continues Project Muck Out: Staten Island, we also offer less intensive home recovery assistance through this Community Recovery Project, including:
• debris removal
• yard work
• basic sanitizing and cleaning
WCC’s Community Recovery Project may also involve neighborhood canvassing, participating in a feeding mission, and/or clothing distribution, dependent upon volunteer turn-out and our partners’ project schedules.
All volunteers will work in small teams under the direction of a Team Lead and the WCC Incident Command Team. A mandatory morning briefing will be held at 9:30 a.m. All teams are expected to attend a project debrief at 3:00 p.m.
All volunteers are asked to dress in long sleeves and pants, layered for the cold, and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Please bring a lunch and bottle of water with you.
