On Sunday, March 20, Marty was hit by an intoxicated driver on the passenger side of his vehicle. He walked away from that accident without knowing his carotid artery had been damaged and for the next two weeks continued working, teaching and living a full and active life. On Saturday, April 2 Marty experienced symptoms of stroke and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Arcadia. During surgery that evening, doctors discovered significant clotting from the damaged artery. Marty passed away on Thursday, April 7 with his family at his side and as an organ donor was able to save three lives.
Being an organ donor exemplifies the generous and caring man Marty was. An industrial designer, entrepreneur and educator with over 35 years of experience in product development, design education and design management, Marty was a pillar of the ArtCenter community and will be greatly missed.
