Snow Dogs, is a winter running for Ray-Pec East Middle School will
begin on Monday, December 9. We will
be meeting on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. Any 6th, 7th,or 8th grader who is interested in distance running
over the winter to build leg strength which will make you faster next cross-country
season and those that would like a jump start on the spring track program, are
welcome to join us. We, Coach Johnson,
Coach Lange, and the runners, will meet at the weight room after school dressed
and ready to go at 2:55. We will keep our
school bags locked up in the weight room. At the end of the run for that day, they will
get their school stuff and their rides will pick them up on the west end of the
building at 4:15.
Please be sure to bring weather appropriate clothing,
including hats and gloves for cold days.
It is also advisable to have a dry pair of socks and shoes to change in
to in case your feet get wet while running.
As far as dry clothes, you can always change back into your school
clothes if your running clothes get wet from the Snow Dog run.
We will not meet on the days when the weather is bad (i.e.,
snow, ice, sleet, etc). If it is not too
cold and just raining, I will make a determination on a day by day basis. We will make that decision by 1 o’clock in
the afternoon if we are not meeting due to weather. There is a text message system (sportsyou.com)
( use the access code yy2xkejk to join our group) I will also notify the office so they can announce so the kids will know to ride the bus home. We will be getting
in our runs as well as a stretching routine, an injury preventing routine, and
a strength developing routine all to help you become a better runner.
Parents, please be aware that this is a voluntary program. This program has shown the runners really do
improve in the off-season. We are
excited to help your child become a better runner during the winter
season. The runners need to know that inappropriate
behavior, tardiness in arriving or departing, inappropriate clothing could
eliminate them from participating, so please stress to your child that if they
want to participate in SNOW DOGS, they must be responsible and have the goal to
become a better runner for the spring and next cross country season.
