He usually went to the sea to catch fish, and brought it to his mother, or sold it in the town. 2. One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing as usual, he saw a merchant's ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed. Many years later, Malin Kundang became a wealthy merchant, with a huge ship, loads of trading goods, many ship crews, and a beautiful wife. In his journey, his ship landed on a beach. The villagers recognized him, and the news ran fast in the town: Malin Kundang became a rich man and now he is here. His mother, in deepful sadness after years of loneliness, ran to the beach to meet her beloved son again. 3. When the mother came, Malin Kundang, in front of his well-dressed wife, its crews and his own glories, denied meeting that old, poor and dirty woman. For three times she begged Malin Kundang and for three times yelled at him. At last Malin Kundang said to her "Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly peasant!" Then he ordered his crews to set sail. 4. Enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he did not apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and set sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to apologize. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship, fell on a small island, and suddenly turned into stone.

Come on, the Valleys!” Our headmaster was near us and he was shouting too. He seemed very enthusiastic. However, the high school scored another goal. We were very sad. 3. Then, one of the “bees” stopped the ball with one of his hands, so our team got the free kick. Our captain took it and scored a goal. We shouted, “Hooray!” The score was now 2:1. That was better. 4. Now our team began to play better—or the “bees” were getting tired. Our team scored another goal before half-time. In the second half of the match, both teams tried very hard, but neither scored, so at the end the score was still two all.

1. Water is an important forest product. Forest soils are giant sponges. They soak up rain, so that it seeps slowly into the ground and stays there. Many towns and cities depend on these forest reservoirs. Shaded from the sun and sheltered from drying winds, forest streams flow steadily even in dry weather. But when trees are cut, the soil is exposed and is washed or blown away. Then rains runs off quickly, causing erosion and floods. 2. Wildlife is another important forest resource. The forest provides food and shelter for a large and varied population of birds and animals. Millions of people, picnicking, sightseeing, fishing, hunting, camping, swimming, and other outdoors activities are becoming more popular each year.

1. School uniform is special clothes worn by all students of a particular school. The uniform of a school may differ from others. Why should schools use uniforms? Below are some reasons. 2.  First of all, Notre Dame’s Department of Sociology produced a study in 1998 concerning school uniforms. Their findings using 10th grade students showed that uniforms have no direct effect on “substance abuse, behavioral problems or attendance.” It also claimed a negative effect on student achievements for those students considered ‘pro-school’. 3. Secondly, uniform helps to create a strong sense school ethos and a sense of belonging to a particular community. As such it promotes discipline and helps to drive up academic standards, which is why a uniform is often adopted by schools which are being reopened with a fresh start after being classified as failing. 4. Finally, uniform acts as a social leveler, under which all students are equal in the eyes of the school and of each other. In institutions without uniform students are often competitive and worry endlessly about their appearance and the clothes they should wear. Pupils without expensive designer clothes and trainers may be singled out as social outcasts, or stigmatized as being from poor backgrounds. For these reasons many parents prefer uniforms as they save them money on buying clothes for school wear. Considering the findings, schools should implement the uniform as their identity. The government should also publish some kind of rule which makes uniform compulsory for schools.

1. Many young people have difficulties deciding where they will live when the time comes to leave home and make their own way in the world. Among the more common alternatives are sharing a house or a flat with other young people and finding full board and lodgings  in someone else’s home. Renting a house with other young people offers the advantage of a high degree of freedom and independence. For example, you would be free to come and go at times that suit you, without needing to inform anyone that you would not be home for dinner. 2. On the down side, renting involves a variety of responsibilities that may be more than you wish to take on. For example, if you rent a house, you will need to spend time and money maintaining the lawn and gardens. You may also share the legal responsibility for the rent and for damage to the property if your name is on the rental agreement. 3. Finding board and lodgings, on the other hand, has significant advantages. Generally, you have no responsibility for the cleaning and maintenance of the dwelling and its gardens, other than to take reasonable care of your room. Your meal are usually provided for you, the home is usually more comfortably furnished than you would be able to afford in a rented property, and your financial liability is limited to the payment of your fixed weekly amount for board and lodging. 4. However, living in a board and lodging circumstances has its drawbacks too. You have less freedom and flexibility in your lifestyle, not only in the timing of meals, but also for example, in how loudly you can play your music. 5. In the end, the decision each person make will depend on their own personal valuing of independence and convenience, as well as their feeling of readiness for taking on considerably financial and other responsibilities of house or flat rental.
