CETL's Graduate Instructor Teaching Endorsement
As universities shift toward a more student-centered focus, more attention is placed on the types and quality of instruction students experience within the classroom. Faculty and instructors experience increased pressure from a variety of sources, e.g. administration, students, parents, etc., to ensure that student engagement, meaningful learning, and quality assessments define the university educational experience.
With higher expectations for teaching on university campuses, graduate instructors, who receive very little training in pedagogy, seek resources to develop their teaching skills to benefit not only the students they teach, but also to enhance their opportunities for faculty appointments after graduation. Many universities require a teaching sample as part of the application process. It is no longer a matter of just knowing one’s content and having great research potential to gain membership to a university’s professoriate; it is also a matter of demonstrating good teaching skills.
Please join us to learn how you can pursue UM CETL's Graduate Instructor Teaching Endorsement to not only improve as a graduate instructor, but also to collect materials and documentation to strengthen your applications for faculty/instructor appointments.
