CSDMS 2017 - SEN clinic survey
The goal of this survey is to capture the earth-surface research community's practices and perceptions about pairing experimental data and numerical models. This information will be used for the SEN clinic at the 2017 CSDMS annual meeting. If you attended the SEN clinic at last year's CSDMS-SEN meeting, please complete this survey again, as we have made some changes to it.
Briefly describe the types of scientific questions you are trying to answer.
Do you generate experimental data? If yes, what are your goals in collecting these data? Do you try to pair your data to numerical model simulations?
Do you (or would you want to) utilize experimental data from others? If yes, how did it go? What challenges did you face in this process?
Do you use controlled vocabularies (e.g., CSDMS Standard Names) to describe experimental or model variables? If so, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 the hardest), how hard is it for you to use controlled vocabularies in your work?
What kinds of data formats do you work with (e.g., .csv, .xlsx, .nc, .cdf, .mat, .bin)?
Have you ever tried to translate data from one format to another? If so, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 the hardest), how hard is it for you to perform data format translation?
What is an example of an ideal experimental data-numerical model pair that you work with or wish you could work with? What are the difficulties in achieving this pairing?
