2014 eText Application

    eText Initiative

    Welcome!

Faculty are invited to apply for funding for 2014 summer support or fall reassigned time to create an eText. Faculty-authored eTexts enhance the quality of instruction and reduce the need for students to purchase expensive commercial textbooks. eTexts typically contain multimedia and interactive exercises, and since they are "born digital" can be easily and electronically updated, so they are never out-of-date. They also help CSUN meet its sustainability goals and help students who increasingly use tablets and other devices to access their course materials. Assurances: - Faculty retain copyright Requirements: - Materials must be readable on tablets - Materials must be made ADA accessible - Applicants must communicate plans with their chair and dean to ensure curricular alignment - Royalties from sales to CSUN students must return to departments; other royalties may go to authors Priority will go to projects that (are): - Free or low cost ($15 or less) or total materials are $25 or less - Serve high numbers of students - Made available for use by other CSUN instructors - Openly licensed by Creative Commons - Contain self-authored or copyright-cleared materials - Contain multimedia, interactivity, and self-checks for students Options - eTexts may be produced in iBooks Author, PDF, Softchalk, HTML, and/or ePUB - Materials may be canonical text, lab manuals, course readers, or other supplementary material For more information, visit: http://www.csun.edu/it/etext-initiative
