As noted by the Business-NGO Working Group (BizNGO) for Safer Chemicals and Sustainable Materials, there is an urgent need “to promote the creation and adoption of safer chemicals and sustainable materials, thereby creating market transitions to a healthy economy, healthy environment, and healthy people.”
Many businesses support a vibrant, prosperous, sustainable economy based on equity and justice that will ensure healthy and vibrant workplaces, communities, environment, and climate.
The need, and opportunity, for just and sustainable business leadership to advance the production and use of chemicals that are nontoxic throughout their life cycle is a core theme throughout the Louisville Charter for Safer Chemicals, and is highlighted specifically in two platform planks:
- Incentivize responsible business and safer chemicals; and
- Build and equitable and health-based sustainable economy.
The American Sustainable Business Network, with a membership representing over 250,000 businesses in a wide range of industries, has endorsed the Charter.
