Offshore Wind & AIS
CFCRI is hoping to gain a better understanding of what the fishing community would like to see regarding AIS on structures within wind farm arrays. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

What size and type of vessel(s) do you operate?
What type of fishing do you engage in?
What type of navigation equipment do you have:
Clear selection
Do you anticipate:
Clear selection
Do you have AIS? If so, what type do you have?
Would you consider having AIS if you were going to transit and/or work within a wind farm?
Clear selection
If you do not have an AIS, what is preventing you from having one? (e.g., cost, space, tech limitations, other)
Are you aware of difference from fixed ASI, synthetic AIS, and virtual AIS? U.S. Office of Coast Survey (noaa.gov)
Would you rather some type of AIS marking be on all turbine and electrical service platforms? Or in pattern (e.g. every other location, only the corners, perimeter/fencing)?
Do you think AIS signal should be on turbine locations during construction on low surface structures and transition pieces, or do you think the structure lighting is sufficient without an AIS signal?
When would AIS be most beneficial to fishing vessel navigation and safety? Should AIS be present during the full lifetime (construction and operations) of project? Or only during the construction phases or reversely only during operations phases?
Do you feel there are any are potential drawbacks of using AIS signals on each wind turbine location? Do you feel AIS would clutter your navigational screen if applied to all turbines and electrical service platforms? Or would it provide benefit in navigating through these areas in such conditions as restricted visibility and rough seas?
