APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Once this electronic form is submitted, the Manly Union will have received your application, which will then be presented to the next meeting of the Executive Committee.
Due to the generosity of our benefactors, there are currently two Roman Bursaries available.
Please make your choice according to relevance.
THE PHILIP CLAVER SMITH ROMAN BURSARY enabling Australian-born diocesan priests to undertake post-graduate studies in Rome for a maximum period of two years. Individual applicants require the approval of their Ordinary for their proposed study course. Under the terms of the will, successful applicants must agree to offer Mass monthly for Father Smith during the duration of the Bursary. A maximum of $3000 is distributed annually via this fund, with most applicants receiving between $1000 and $1500.
Clergy applicants are asked to indicate the anticipated support they will receive to undertake their studies - from their Diocese, Development Fund or any other source. Applicants will also be asked to describe the Proposed Studies, the Location where you intend to reside and to study, and the Amount you are applying for.
THE ANTHONY WHITTY SCHOLARSHIP is a Bursary administered by the Manly Union Executive to assist clergy incardinated in Australian dioceses to undertake further studies at a Pontifical University in Rome in any of the subjects of Sacred Scripture, Dogma or Sacramental Theology. Applicants require the approval of their Ordinary for their proposed study course. A scholarship of $10,000 per year is available, and can be paid directly to a diocese or institution to help offset the cost of the studies and accommodation during the course of the studies. Typically the scholarship will last for between 2 to 3 years, and a maximum of 2 scholarships can be paid for per year.
At the conclusion of the studies, the Executive requests a maximum 1 page written report at the conclusion of the activity, in order to keep a record of activities for Manly Union members, and to possibly provide information to members about the experiences of further study programmes.
