Southern Solidarity is a grassroots community based group of volunteers in solidarity with the unhoused in their quest toward liberation. We deliver food, medical resources and basic needs directly to the unhoused in the downtown area of New Orleans because the government has not filled this need. We are influenced by anti-imperialist traditions and mobilized by a Black queer woman.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines homelessness as "an individual or family who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence." Houselessness can look like sleeping in cars, parks, and abandoned buildings. It can also look like staying in a motel/hotel or couch surfing. There are many forms of homelessness and for that reason, there is no way to look homeless. Why do you believe this would be important to remember? *
