When you're playing a tabletop RPG, what kind of character do you prefer to create?
*
There's a specific kind of character I love to play. Maybe it's a ninja, or a pirate, or an anti-hero, but I have to play that character every time.
The most clever character I can. I need to be able to think my way out of any situation.
I usually let the others tell me what kind of character they need me to play. Do they need a healer? Then that's what I'll play.
The most powerful character I can. Lots of spells, gear, money, powers, weapons...
The most complex and well-developed persona I can manage. I love the challenge of being someone else for a while.
The most combat-proficient character I can. If I can't hold my own in combat, the character is worthless.
I love to play characters with a rich history and background, with lots of plot hooks and interesting tidbits.
What sort of backstory do your characters tend to have?
*
If I have to have a backstory, it's probably about my training to become a tactical genius.
I love creating lavishly detailed backstories rich in personal connections, personal motivations, and other story seeds.
Do I have to create a backstory? Can't we just get the part where we play?
If I have to have a backstory, it's probably about how I became so awesome.
I love creating lavishly detailed backstories rich in personal stories, psychological intrigue, and other acting challenges.
If I have to have a backstory, it's probably about all the foes that I've defeated in glorious battle.
My backstory is always appropriate to my prefered character archetype.
How do you define a successful campaign? At the end of the story, how do you know it's been a good series of weeks?
*
I used my characteristic abilities to allow the group to prevail.
I overcame all obstacles through the sheer power of my mind.
I was a god of war.
I developed a plausible character, and never strayed from his personality.
I amassed amazing powers, money, and/or treasure.
I wasn't bored whilst spending time with my friends.
I was involved in an epic saga, worthy of immortalizing in film or literature.
Why to you like to play tabletop RPGs?
*
I love the feeling I get when I'm hanging out with friends and we're all doing something fun together.
I love the feeling I get when I can throw off my own personality and be someone different for a while.
I love the feeling I get when I'm part of an epic tale that would make an excellent book, movie, or TV show.
I love the feeling I get from playing a (ninja, wizard, fairy princess, paladin, etc).
I love the feeling I get when I outwit my opponents, especially if my clever thinking thwarted the GM's plans.
I love the feeling I get when I emerge victorious from combat after combat, seeing my enemies driven before me in a glory of vicarious violence.
I love the feeling I get when I go up a level or win that awesome magical item or purchase a new cybernetic enhancement.

Something with a lot of potential for character development, like Vampire: the Masquerade.
How do you know it's been a successful gaming session? At the end of the evening, when you look back on the night's events, what makes it worthwhile?
*
I have faced tough situations and managed to stay in character, despite my character's complicated persona.
I have slain many a worthy opponent in glorious combat.
I have out-thought my adversaries, defeating them through skill and strategy.

I got to hang out with my friends.
What most annoys you in a gaming session?
*
When we waste time with dramatic details instead of fighting monsters or other enemies.
When things get boring, or the players are arguing about rules or something.
When we waste time in combat instead of developing our characters.
When we get bogged down in story drama that prevents me from getting experience or treasure.
When I don't get to show off my awesome abilities! I'm playing an assassin for a reason, people...
When combat gets in the way of the story.
When encounters are too easy, and I don't have to think to find a way out of them.
What's your favourite part of the character creation process?

Developing a complex and believable personality. I love getting into the mind of my character.
