Aidan Spangler is a student at O’Neill Elementary School and the son of Allen Spangler a Skilled Technical Science teacher at O’Neill High School. Aidan was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007 at the age of 2. He and his family have valiantly fought a debilitating battle with pediatric brain cancer. Aidan is currently 8 and in remission. This horrible disease has taken much from him and his family and continues to color their lives. Aidan’s fight against the disease has inspired our team and countless others who have had the pleasure of interacting with him. Aidan is an incredibly curious and funny little boy who is quick to bring a smile to anyone’s face. It is also true that many of our athletes feel a special connection to Mr. Spangler. They have benefited directly from his knowledge and dedication as a classroom teacher and the “#Pins4Aidan” campaign is an effort to pay forward the impact Aidan and his family have made on all of us.
Our team is inspired and moved by the grace and humility of Aidan and the Spangler family. This is why they have chosen to dedicate their 2013-14 season to Aidan in a “#Pins4Aidan” fundraising drive. Wrestlers will solicit donations for every pin an O’Neill Eagle wrestler scores on the mat at the Junior Varsity and Varsity level. The proceeds from these fundraising efforts, at the request of the Spangler family, will be donated in Aidan’s name to the Team Jack Foundation.
