At Restoring Hearts Outreach Center, we are dedicated to empowering low-income families and at-risk individuals, and youth. Our nonprofit counseling center provides a comprehensive range of services designed to equip our clients with essential life skills and educational opportunities. We offer substance abuse counseling, stress and anger management programs, individual and group counseling, job counseling, mentorship, and support for prison reentry. Our goal is to create a stable environment that fosters emotional and spiritual growth, helping individuals and families thrive beyond their current circumstances.
Dr. Hazel M. Knighten, PsyD, LPL, is a dedicated clinical therapist based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who is committed to providing high-quality professional services to clients and the community. Has a Doctoral Degree in Biblical Clinical Psychology from The H.O.P.E. Bible Institute. Dr. Knighten holds multiple degrees, including a master’s degree in the same field and a bachelor’s in accounting.
With extensive experience as a licensed Christian therapist and pastoral counselor, she has specialized skills in mental health counseling, particularly focusing on child and family dynamics, crisis intervention, and addiction counseling. Dr. Knighten is certified in various areas, including cognitive behavioral therapy and substance abuse training, and has served as a clinical chaplain for emotionally disturbed youths. Also committed to working with youth at risk, low-income families that are struggling with job replacement. Works as a job coach and a mentoring program
Her work history includes significant volunteer positions at the Baton Rouge Police Department and Jetson Correctional Youth Facility, where she provided spiritual counseling and support to incarcerated individuals. Known for her excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team, Dr. Knighten is dedicated to lifelong learning and professional growth within the field of psychology.

In today’s fast-paced environment, youth face numerous challenges that can hinder their personal and academic growth. To address these issues, we propose the YARD program, which aims to empower youth aged 9-20 through a comprehensive peer mentoring initiative. The program will focus on fostering resilience, promoting awareness, and equipping young individuals with tools for success.

3. Skill Development: Facilitate workshops and activities that build essential life skills, including communication, decision-making, and problem-solving.
4. Community Engagement: Involve families and community members to create a supportive network that encourages the growth and development of youth.
