Our mission is to make Food Freedom accessible to all who would benefit from it. To accomplish this, we are providing the book in a unique, grassroots way, published through Robin Press. We need support to do this!

Here are ways that we are seeking support:

Local Ambassador Program. We provide books in bulk to selected local ambassadors who want to spread food sovereignty in their community through this book. The mission is to share the book passionately with libraries, schools, educators, politicians, influential people and everyday people. The books are provided to ambassadors free of charge. Ambassadors can cover the cost of the books ($160/box) or help raise funds through distribution. Our goal is to at least cover the cost of each box of books. The ambassador program is available worldwide. For the sake of ease and cost effectiveness we ship by the box or half box we receive from the printer which is 44 books, so a 44 or 22 book minimum is our preference.

Be the Change boxes come with 56 books or half boxes of ~23 and our cost per book is $2. (~$145 cost of box.)

International Distribution Volunteers. Our model for internationally distributing Food Freedom is to mail boxes of books to people and organizations abroad who can then distribute within their country. Through this model, we will drastically reduce the cost and environmental impact of shipping. Orders for Food Freedom will be placed through our website and the orders would then be fulfilled by the International Distribution Volunteer within that country by shipping them or through local pickup. For the sake of ease and cost effectiveness we ship by the box we receive from the printer which is 44 books, so a a full box is our preference, but we can do half boxes as well.

Volunteer Distribution Program. To start, Robin and volunteers are working to distribute the first round of books from our temporary location in Port Townsend, Washington. In future, we are seeking Volunteer Distributors who would receive shipments of boxes of Food Freedom in the mail. We would then provide orders to be fulfilled including packaging and shipping the books via USPS. Books will be shipped either weekly or every other week to keep the workload minimal for volunteers. This would allow us to operate in a decentralized manner, without a physical location of our own, which we do not have. This would likely be in the hundreds of books over a few months as a commitment. You would need the space to store the books as they wait to be ordered. 

We are also seeking someone near Chelsea, Michigan (which is where the printer is) who would be interested in packing and shipping boxes from their home. This would be a longterm modestly paid position. This would cut back the costs of shipping substantially. 

Port Townsend, Washington Volunteer Distribution long term. We are seeking someone who would package and ship books via USPS for the rest of 2024/until we send out all 5,000 copies that we have at our HQ. Books are shipped weekly to keep the workload minimal for volunteers. This could be done by a group of people together as a community. Volunteers can also take home boxes of books/materials to package books or apply shipping labels from the comfort of their own space.

Management of our ecommerce platform. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated volunteer who would like to manage our online ecommerce platform and communication with people who have questions. We have simple systems to follow.

Library Distribution. Our goal is to provide Food Freedom to every library that would like to offer it. This is the most sustainable way we know to provide a physical copy of this book to as many people as we can. Sustainability and community involved are brought together through book libraries! We are seeking a volunteer who would like to serve in the mission of getting this book to hundreds or thousands of libraries across the US. To do this, we imagine researching the process for how to get books into libraries and then outreach to libraries so they know about Food Freedom. We will then provide the book to every library that requests books, regardless of whether they have the funding to make a donation. Our focus is public libraries and school libraries.

General admin to make this service possible. We are seeking support from someone who takes joy in general admin. As a grassroots organization, this is necessary for the entire operation to function. It takes work to maintain a radical distribution model like this

Ecommerce Tech Support. Technical difficulties are common. We are looking for a dedicated volunteer to help make sure our platform (woocommerce) is consistently flowing so books can be ordered and distributed.

Google Ads usage. Our nonprofit receives an ad budget of $10,000/month for free. We want to use this to share the opportunity of Food Freedom with people who don't know about us. We are seeking someone who is skilled in google ads to establish and continue this monthly usage of our budget. 

Grant researching and/or grant writing/fundraising. We want to provide this book for free to everyone who would like it and doesn't have the ability to make a donation. The most likely way to be able to do this is through donations and grants. We are seeking people with experience who would like to use their skills to make this happen.

Supporting Black and Indigenous led service to Earth. 100% of profits – after book distribution – are donated to Gardens of Liberation, supporting Indigenous and Black-led food sovereignty initiatives. Would you like to help distribute these funds and communicate with the recipients?
