Choose any 5 rides at the park. Identify at what point potential and kinetic energy come in to play on each ride.
Going Green
Disney, as a corporation, has taken great steps to "go green." As you walk around the park, spot 5 examples of those efforts.
(Bonus points if you find a furry alternative to pest control)
Plants Around the Park
Take a look around you. At the park they take pride in their flora. As you walk around, take note of 8 different plants that are indigenous to California. Take a picture of each and list what those plants are. Email them to your teacher as evidence.
California Screamin'
California Screamin' is 1851 meters long. Time how long it takes from the moment it launches (3... 2... 1... GO!) until it comes to a stop. What is the average speed?
Roller coasters need a lot of force to get them going. Once given an initial force, they often continue to move on their own momentum. What are the two initial forces that help California Screamin' start its journey around Paradise Pier?
Since energy is conserved, list three reasons why the ride slows down during the course of the ride.
Goofy's Sky School
Take a lesson at Goofy's Sky School. Describe four times when you experienced a change of velocity.
Inertia makes this ride a real neck breaker. Describe an instance on this ride where you experience Newton's First Law of Motion.
The Millennium Tree
Find the Millennium Tree in the Redwood Challenge Trail. Describe 5 pieces of California history that you can learn by looking at the rings of this ancient tree.
Silly Symphony Swings
Measure the time for five (5) revolutions. Use your answer to calculate the  RPM (revolution per minute) to the nearest whole number.
Using your answer from above, how many swings  would  pass a stationary observer in one minute.
While waiting in line for Soarin' take a look at the wall of famous aviators. Choose one and research how he/she impacted aviation. Write a little summary while you wait.
Inventions in California History
At CA Adventure there are many relics of inventions that greatly impacted California's history. Find three examples and provide a brief description of each.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
On Tower of Terror, Disney imagineers literally sling you down as you drop. Using an accelerometer, compare your acceleration during the big drop to free fall.
You can download a free accelerometer app on your phone.
Centripetal Force
As you walk around the park, find 5 examples of rides that have a centripetal force. How are they alike? How are they different?
Grizzly River Run
If this grizzly was a real bear, how tall would he be?
Use one of the methods on this link to estimate the height. http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-the-Height-of-a-Tree
Using the height you calculated, estimate how much this giant bear would actually weigh.
Grizzly bears weight approximately 145 kg/m.
Estimate, in meters, the width and depth of the river near the waterfall.
Determine the speed of the raft in meters per second by timing it as it travels an estimated distance along the path.
Remember that one meter is about as long as three feet.
Use a calculator and your previous two answers to determine the volume of water, in cubic meters per second, which flows through the rapids near the waterfall.
width x depth = area; area x speed of raft = volume flow rate in cubic meters per second
Each raft has a mass of 272 kg. Assuming each rider has a mass of approximately 59 kg, what is the total mass of your raft?
The radius of the raft is 1.2 meters. Calculate the area of your raft.
A= pi(r squared)
Using the previous two calculations, determine the amount of pressure on the inflatable wheel under the raft.
P = F/A
