Breastfeeding babies have the most stable food supply among the victims now. And formula-feeding or mixed feeding babies can always be supported back to the breast through a process called relactation. Wet-nursing is a safer option. This becomes disrupted with the entry of formula milk from well-meaning donors.

A national breastmilk donation drive is being conducted in anticipation for missions that will specifically address infant and young child feeding in emergencies to ensure that pasteurized human milk is readily available when the need is called.

However, beyond the milk donation, we EMPHASIZE the affirmation, protection and support to mothers who are breastfeeding or returning their babies to breastfeeding. Babies beyond 6 months DO NOT need milk formula but they can thrive on their mother's milk and solid foods.

This effort is being closely monitored by volunteer medical professionals and mother support groups across the country.

Some Reminders:
1. Please be self-sustaining. Bring your own water and food for the duration of your duty.

2. Dress modestly. Bring socks.  Socks needed to enter the Nanay Bayanihan Center.

3. Please refrain from taking photos of the mothers. If you must document, please ask for their permission.

4. Engage in sincere interaction with the mothers. However, recognize that these mothers are very tired and are under trauma so be mindful of their personal boundaries.

5.  Please take initiative.  We cannot respond to individual inquiries on how to get to the tent. (Please see the diagram below, letter H marks the spot for the Nanay Bayanihan Space).

6. If you want to bring your children, it is up to you.  This is an evacuation area - hot, dusty, open air.  If you can help, while minding your children, then by all means, bring them.  Please also make sure your children are healthy.  You do not want them to be exposing their germs to the survivors who are not in good shape and are easily susceptible to viruses of others.

7. When you sign up, your slot is already confirmed. We will email you if slots are already full.  If you receive no email, please come.

8. We cannot give you a general list of things of what to bring.  Remember, this is a transient place - needs change everyday!  Some days, we have so much diapers, some days we don't.  So please make sure you sign up so you can be included in the mailing list of what you can bring.
