EVENT DETAILS:
This event is a student led rally to raise awareness about the violence happening within the Asian community. In this rally we will be highlighting Angelo Quinto, a 30-yr-old Filipino man who was suffering under a mental health crisis and when his family called the police for help, he was met with violence which lead to his death a few days later. In addition, we would like to highlight the attacks happening within our Asian elders in Chinatown. Overall, we want to bring everyone together, and have the voices of our Asian community be heard and seen.
Date & Time: Friday, March 26, 2021 from 12:30PM-3PM
Location: meetup at Union Square at 12:30 PM and will march down to Embarcadero Plaza for a peaceful rally that will end at 3PM.
OBJECTIVES:
For Angelo Quinto:
- We demand the Bay Area and Antioch police departments to remove the knee-to-neck maneuver, and carotid hold technique in part of their training and in their work
- We demand for the police officers in-charge during the case of Angelo Quinto to be held accountable for using violent tactics against someone suffering under a mental health crisis, and failing to de-escalate the situation
- We demand for the Bay Area and Antioch police departments to require a comprehensive reporting when a police officer has used excessive force towards someone suffering under a mental health crisis
- We call for Bay Area and Antioch local governments to establish and invest on a mental health crisis response team to be on-call when it comes dealing with people who are suffering under a mental health crisis instead of police departments
- Petition:

- We call on local Bay Area governments to invest in providing a protection service for Asian elders in Bay Area Chinatowns where they can call if they need an escort or need to report an incident
- You may report incidents to:
https://stopaapihate.org - We want to highlight accessible organizations and promote spaces where our community can reach out to for protection, mental health resources, and any guidance for aid in the Bay Area
