Theodore Roosevelt does not embody our community's values well. Throughout his quotes and writings he often states that Whites are meant to dominate and "civilize" non-Whites. His racism permeates his quotes and writings, for example when he was quoted saying, "I don't go so far as to think that the only good Indians are dead Indians, but I believe nine out of every ten are..." Such ideas are far from the heart of our community, and it is time to more accurately show who we are by carefully choosing a school namesake symbolic of our values.
