In carrying out our activities of promoting and organising chess in Cork, we collect some data about our members. This document helps you understand what data we collect, what we use it for and how we manage it.
Contact Details
With your permission, we may contact you to inform you of recent or upcoming club or chess events. We will only contact you if you have given consent to be contacted for that reason. For these purposes, we may store your phone number, email or home address.
We will not share your contact details with anyone else.
If you participate in a multi-day tournament, such as the Club Championship, your preferred means of contact, or those of your parent’s or guardian’s if under 18, will be shared with other participants in a members-only list on the club website, and posted up in the club, to allow games to be scheduled.
If you wish to represent the club in team competitions such as the Munster Leagues your preferred means of contact, or those of your parent’s or guardian’s if under 18, will be shared with the Team Captain to allow the team to be coordinated.
Rating data
Cork Chess Club is affiliated with the Irish Chess Union, the ICU. One of the functions of the ICU is to maintain rating data for people who play competitive chess in Ireland. A player’s rating is a measure of that player’s chess skill. If you participate in a rated event at Cork Chess Club your game results will be shared with the ICU to allow accurate rating records to be kept.
Game results
Game results will frequently be made available on the Cork Chess Club website http://www.corkchess.com/ and posted up in the club venue. These results will include the names of the players, the rating of the players and the outcome of the game.
Data storage
Your data will be stored in secure systems we use to help run the club, such as email and document management systems. Your data will be stored for as short a time as possible. If you contact us by email or through our website those interactions will also be stored in these secure systems. More information on the tools we use is available on request to our data controller at corkchess@gmail.com.
Your rights
On your request, we will send you the personal data we have for you, or delete it. For such requests, contact corkchess@gmail.com. If you have complaints about our approach to data protection, we'd like to hear from you first at corkchess@gmail.com. You are also entitled to complain to the Data Protection Commission, whose website is www.dataprotection.ie.
