Welcome to Denton, USA!!!!  Here is all the info that you will need to prepare for your audition.  Also, please read for further info regarding virtual auditions. I am so excited to get this started. This year, The Rocky Horror Lavender Show, will be a little different than previous productions. This year, we expand the best party to include Shock Treatment,Repo: The Genetic Opera, and Reefer Madness: The Musical

Hello, Unconventional Conventionalists!! 

You have chosen to join the wacky collective known as The Rocky Horror Lavender Show! Good for you! We are a collective of shadowcasters and people with diverse backgrounds, different schedules, and so much more. We have a few ground rules to ensure productions run smoothly, adhere to venue's rental policies and make sure that everyone has a good time. 

Please read through this document and sign it confirming that you have read through it. 

The 2025 season is as follows: 

March 1st- Clue encore presentation- Echo Theater 

March 29th- The Rocky Horror Picture Show- Clinton Street Theater (with 2024 season cast) 

April 19th- Reefer Madness: The Musical- Echo Theater 

August 30th- The Rocky Horror Picture Show 

October- Rocky Horror Hallowmas Show TBD in late January 

November 15th- Shock Treatment at Echo Theater 

November 29th- The Rocky Horror Picture Show 

December 5th- Repo: The Genetic Opera 

The Audition Process: 

In Person audition: 

Fill out the pre- application form 

Submit music prior to audition 

Perform a lip synch based on one of the five films represented. 

Example: Auditioning for Janet in Shock Treatment- use songs to represent the character (Satin Chic by Goldfrapp as an example) 

You may be asked to perform a scene from the movie 

You may be asked to perform a simple dance sequence 

Virtual auditions: 

Film your lip sync

Go into detail as to why you're auditioning for the character (s) 

Rehearsals: 

Main characters: If you are a main character, you are required to be at rehearsals six times or more. 

Minor characters: If a minor character, you are required to be at rehearsal three times or more. 

DO NOT MISS TECH REHEARSAL.  

UNLESS YOU CANNOT GET OUT OF WORK, ALIENS ABDUCTED YOU, OR YOU'RE SICK. YOU NEED TO BE AT TECH. TECH REHEARSAL IS A FULL DRESS REHEARSAL AT THE VENUE. 

COMMUNICATION: 

In case of emergencies, PLEASE MESSAGE MARLA DIRECTLY ON INSTAGRAM(or by phone). DO NOT MESSAGE THE GROUP CHAT.  

No call/no show: If you do not message Marla or the group chat, this is considered a no call, no show. Failure to communicate in any way will be an automatic cut from the show.  

Conduct at rehearsal: 

Side conversations need to be held away from the rehearsal process. 

If doing call back lines, please save those for the following: first watch through, tech rehearsal, Show performance 

TECH REHEARSAL: 

Expect for tech rehearsal to go longer or start late due to delays and locking in cues as they go. 

Smoking- please smoke across the street or at the corner of SE 12th and Belmont. Smoke breaks are limited to 20 minutes. 

IMPORTANT REMINDER: 

THIS COLLECTIVE IS ORGANIZED BY A QUEER, DISABLED, INDIGENOUS, LATINX FEMME, WHO IS ALSO NEURODIVERGENT. IF I SUSPECT ANY MICROAGGRESSIONS, I WILL CALL YOU OUT ON IT AND I WILL NOT BE NICE ABOUT IT.  

Remember- These policies are to ensure that everyone is able to have fun, and to, also deliver quality performances at the Clinton and the Echo Theater this year.

Rehearsal schedule: Rehearsals will take place at my apartment building on Mondays from 6PM-10pm. Saturdays from 2pm-5pm. More info will be provided on the first day of rehearsal. 

Sensitive content: Rocky Horror Shock Treatment, Reefer Madness: The Musical have  questionable and problematic content. Two films are representative of a time and place in Queer history. Its important to have conversations. But its also important to know context, the time period of history that would create satirical commentary. Reefer Madness: The Musical does have allusions to SA and racism. In the production process, we are allowed to discuss comfort levels, and boundaries, and unpack the themes expressed in the films,  and create an autonomous container of safety, and still have a ton of fun doing these shows. 

Payment: Payment will be sent after each show. Allow five days maximum for payment. Payment comes from ticket sales. Promotion is key. 

Auditions are Monday, January 27th

Cast notifications will be sent out by Monday, February 3rd on Instagram/Messenger. 

First rehearsal will be Monday, February 10th at 6PM. It will be for Reefer Madness: The Musical

One audition is for all four shows to be cast. Clue is already cast as that is an encore presentation. Rocky Horror on March 29th will be the 2024 cast. 

Here is how to audition for The Rocky Horror Lavender Show:

💋Perform a drag number that is inspired by the character you chose to audition for from Rocky Horror. 

💋Answer the question: If you were on a reality TV show, what would it be and why? 

💋Perform a duet with another person from Reefer Madness: The Musical (Romeo and Juliet OR Little Mary Sunshine) 

💋 If virtual auditioning, please share a funny story about your weed experiences. 

💋 GROUP SCENE: EVERYONE DOES ZYDRATE ANATOMY
