Four Days of Dance - Submission 2014

The HCC Dance Program invites you to submit an application to produce your work in the Four Days of Dance, April 16- 19, 2014 in the Mainstage Theatre, HCC Ybor City campus. This year’s concert will challenge local choreographers to push the boundaries of how dance can be communicated. We are asking all choreographers to expand their dance making methods by incorporating one of these 4 strands into your work. The performances will not only highlight choreographic creativity, but will serve as a deeper investigation on these topics.

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES: FOUR INTERSECTIONS OF DANCE
Interaction (sensorial, communication, expressing, sensors/triggers, projection technology)
Definition (idea, perspective, context, meaning, purpose, representation, social/political message)
Transformation (journey, metaphor, experience, altering environment, costumes that become props)
Experimentation (form, time, space, body/ physicality, video, interactivity, light)

Along with incorporating one of these topics into your work, all choreographers are invited to observe/ participate in the Bridgman/ Packer Dance workshop being hosted by HCC Dance Program. The workshop dates are February 11 from 12:45 – 3:50 pm, February 12th from 12:45 – 3:50pm, February 13th from 12:45-3:50 & 6:00 – 9:00 pm and February 14th from 11- 4 pm and a showing at 6:00 pm. The workshop is free and open to the community. Participants must attend all of the sessions, but observers are welcome. It is our hope that the workshop bridges the ideas of dance and technology into our theme. Pieces that begin to emerge from the workshop showing can then continue to be developed into work submitted for these performances. .

Guidelines for submitting work:
-Applications must be submitted via google docs link and must contain a link to your work
-Work must relate to overall theme and follow one of the strands
-Only new work that has not been seen in the Tampa Bay area will be accepted.
-Due to limits of time, each group piece should be under 10 minutes and solos under 7 minutes.
-Work should be at a Professional level.
-Submit work by Deadline: Monday, March 17th by 11:59 pm. There is no submission fee.

All work will be selected by an HCC panel based on the above guidelines. Depending on the number of works selected for the performances, we would like to curate individual nights based on themes.

Each piece that is chosen will have a tech time scheduled for Saturday, April 12th or Sunday, April 13th. Keith Arsenault, Technical Director, is willing work with each group’s choreographer and lighting designer ahead of time to meet your performance needs. We would like to schedule tech times based on program order, but we can be flexible to accommodate scheduling conflicts. We will be sending around tech times once pieces are selected. We will also dress rehearsals on April 14th & 15th. Although it is not a mandatory run your piece during the dress rehearsals, you are welcome to come if you would like another run of your piece.
