I'm interested in the California Elections Project

KPCC and WNYC are working together with support from OpenNews to create an open-source system for parsing the California Secretary of State voting results XML feed for the Nov. 6 election. We've got a good version just about ready -- producing easy-to-use .json files and an embeddable map. If you're interested for any reason, maybe because you'd like to use the maps or you'd just like to play with the XML parser, let us know below!

In some cases, this project uses FAKE election results to help test the maps and systems. Fake results are in no way based on actual or predicted results. Yet, they could be misunderstood as such or taken out of context by your audience, the candidates or the public at large if published. It is a very bad idea to publish test data.

This project is an experiment done quickly as a prototype and, we hope, as a great resource for election night. That said, nobody involved at KPCC, WNYC or OpenNews can guarantee that it will work perfectly, or at all, on election night.
