St. John's Buildings and Grounds Survey
As St. John's enters a new chapter in our history, it is incumbent upon us to have a realistic and informed vision of how we will carry forward the Mission and Ministry entrusted to us by our Lord, and by those who have worshipped and served Him from this neighborhood, now for the last 100 years. The Vestry has empowered the Joint Building and Grounds Committee, (comprised of Church members, staff, Vestry (Jr. Warden, Paul Brokaw) and clergy (Fr. Zimmerman), representation from St. John's School and residents of Hyde Park); to solicit input from each of these various perspectives. We recognize that the very age of our buildings at the Orleans campus necessitate improvements in terms of space, access, and efficiency as well as the vital interest of providing our School with up-to-date and cutting edge tools and facilities as St. John's strives to: "Proclaim, by word and example, the Good News of God in Christ, and to build a spiritual community forming Christians of all ages through worship, education, and outreach." as stated in the St. John's Church Mission statement, and to "Prepare each of its students for lifelong intellectual and spiritual growth by providing a superior educational experience within a nurturing Christian environment." as stated in the St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School Mission statement.
What follows is our effort to gather your own experience, concerns and dreams regarding our Mission and Ministry, and how we will need to configure and change the facilities we now have. We want not only to ASSESS what we have, but more so to IMAGINE what we are called to do and be. Thank you for taking your part, and for your time in assisting us in this important endeavor.
