University/Community Relations and Service -- 20% of Total Point Value

It is expected that an acceptable chapter will comply with all University policies and maintain proper communications and behavior to support positive and interactive relationships with the surrounding Greek, University, University, and local communities. A chapter should maintain a presence as a “Good Citizen” and strive to instill in its membership a thorough understanding of the standards of these varying communities as well as an appreciation of positive relationships.

    Chapter Property ~ 30 Points (15 per semester)

    1. The chapter maintains its property in a neat, orderly, safe, and healthy fashion and respects the desired environment of its neighbors (including but not limited to upkeep of chapter house property, proper clean up after fraternity/sorority events, and acceptable noise levels). • Chapters will start with the total point value and points will be deducted for situations where University officials must remind them to clean chapter property. Non-Compliance of Noise Ordinances will also be counted into this category. • Organizations with chapter rooms in campus housing will also be checked for cleanliness of chapter rooms and any office that they maintain. • Organizations will be given a one-week notice before a planned inspection. • Parties, recruitment functions, or other events must be cleaned up within 6 hours of the conclusion event. • Fraternities with houses will maintain fire safety standards as outlined in the Fire Safety Plan.

    Community Service/Philanthropic Project ~ 12 Points

    2. The chapter conducts one large-scale (involving at least 75% of the chapter) community service/philanthropic project per year. The chapter conducted a large-scale community service/philanthropic project involving 75% of the chapter. • Use the “Community Service/Philanthropy Definitions and Categories” (See Appendix B) to determine the type of philanthropy activity your chapter sponsored. • Complete a community service/philanthropic tracking form (Appendix C) for the project performed. • While only one project is required with 75% participation, it is requested that all projects be reported with the Greek Accreditation submission for accurate reporting of hours and funds donated by the Greek Community for our Annual Greek Report.

    Compliance ~ 44 Points (22 per semester)

    3. The chapter complies with the University policies that govern its students and fraternities/sororities as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct and Clubs and Organizations Policies. • Any chapter found guilty of a judicial infraction other than an alcohol violation or disruptive conduct charge by the University’s judicial system and/or IFC/Panhellenic/NPHC Judicial Board will lose 22 points. • Any chapter found guilty of an alcohol/drug policy violation will lose 44 points. • Any violation of the University’s Alcohol/Drug policy and/or IFC, or Panhellenic Council risk management policy will result in a 44 point deduction.

    Programming ~ 12 Points

    4. The chapter will present or attend at least one program on diversity, risk management, hazing, or scholarship for its members and/or the entire campus each year. At least 75% of the chapter members will be present at this program. Other types of programs may be acceptable. Please contact the Assistant Director of Student Life-Fraternity and Sorority Life if you have any questions.

    Council Participation ~ 6 Points (3 per semester)

    5. The chapter is a member of and actively participates in the IFC, Panhellenic Council, or Pan-Hellenic Council, attending 90 percent of the meetings and complying with other criteria for participation as outlined by the organizations. • The IFC Secretary, Panhellenic Secretary, or Pan-Hellenic Secretary will record attendance at meetings and submit that information to the Assistant Director of Student Life – Fraternity and Sorority Life. You do not need to submit any information for this item.

    "Non-Greek" program ~ 6 Points

    6. The chapter demonstrates an attitude of community awareness and service by participating in at least one project or program per academic year which is sponsored by a “non-Greek” student organization. Attendance by at least 50% of chapter membership will be required.

    Alumni Programming ~ 6 Points

    7. The chapter demonstrates an effort to maintain and/or improve alumni programs designed to keep alumni involved in chapter activities and chapter news. The chapter will have at least one program per year or activity designed for alumni. *Parties are not acceptable. Please submite an Alumni/Alumnae Program Event document for each activity/activities or program(s) designed for alumni/ae (See Appendix D). Submit any invitations, newsletters, or other communications designed for alumni.
