In 2023, FOUR of SpringLight's students Qualified USABO Finalist/Camp!

In 2021, FIVE of SpringLight's students Qualified USABO Finalist/Camp!

All of them have studied BIOLOGY/USABO with Mrs. Webster.

Since 2013, SpringLight has offered USABO training, and our students have seen great success. Qualifying for USABO semifinalists, many of our students (including 8th and 9th graders!) are in the top 100 and top 50 nationwide. Our students frequently stand among the 20 USABO national finalists. Most of our students receive a score of 5 on their AP biology test.

Through the years, Mrs. Webster's approach to teaching has inspired in students a deep love for biology, beyond contests. Our students have gone on to intern in professional labs, win national science fairs, and major in biology in college.

Our biology classes are held synchronously over Zoom. Student camera and mike are optionalstudents usually participate over zoom chat. Classes often develop a strong sense of community, and students like to start Discord servers to stay in touch and continue discussions beyond class. We provide students with a Google folder which includes a reading guides, practice problems for homework, class schedule and syllabus, and other resources. Assignments are submitted over Google classroom. Class recordings are available for students so they can review and catch up on missed classes.

------------
Honors Biology
class is for students without any biology background. The class exceeds the level of high school biology taught to 9th grade classes at local schools, so it helps students do better in school. Most honors biology students find the course so fun and interesting that they choose to continue studying biology. We offer this class in the summer and again in the spring.
------------
AP Biology class will cover the entire AP Biology course as laid out by the College Board, with a special emphasis on the most challenging chapters (for example, photosynthesis and cell signaling).
The class is appropriate for students who will take AP Biology in school or who are self-studying for the exam. We offer this class in the summer, and again in the fall.
Many students also choose to the take the AP Biology Prep course IN ADDITION to this summer (or fall) course. We offer the Prep course in the spring.

------------
USABO class is for students who are highly motivated to learn biology. We will be covering every chapter in the Campbell biology book (the official book of the USABO competition). This means students may need to read and review up to 5 chapters a week. This class prepares students for the AP Biology exam and the USABO contest. We offer this class in the summer and again in the fall.
------------
Advanced USABO class is for students with biology experience (at least AP level). the course is divided into four parts: physiology, cell and molecular biology, botany, and genetics. It is offered in the summer and again in the fall.
Most students take all four parts as one big course (register for "full package"), while some choose to divide the parts over multiple semesters so they can digest the material more slowly.

Spring AP Biology Test Prep Class

Are you ready for the AP Biology exam in May?

By reviewing essential concepts as well as providing up to date multiple-choice and FRQ practices, our course will prepare you for this tough exam.

Many schools teach either too little or too much information for the AP Biology test. Spring Light's test-prep class reviews only the essential material, thoroughly, with an emphasis on those topics YOU need help with.

(The class is appropriate for students who are completing an AP Biology course or self-studying for the AP Bio exam. Students with no biology experience should talk to teacher before registering.)

ALL past students have passed the exam, with most receiving a 4 or a 5 (even 9th graders and self-studiers).

Class is held synchronously, over zoom.  Students who miss a class are welcome to watch class recording and email the teacher with any questions.
