The LATA is accepting nominations. Members are encouraged to review the qualifications for each award and consider nominating a colleague(s) for one of the awards.
Award designations
Backbone - It is designed to recognize an assistant athletic trainer that has played a major role as backbone to the Head Athletic Trainer. This award is for the person in the trenches that is there day to day what is needed in the athletic training room, the true professional.
Sports medicine Person of the Year - This award is given to the person that has contributed to LATA and athletic training as a profession. Both medical and non-medical persons have been recipients of this award. This award is the highest award given to a person who may not be an athletic trainer and is designed to show the association's appreciation for particular contributions to the field of athletic training in Louisiana.
College or Staff Award - This award will recognize an athletic trainer or a staff at the college/university level for service to the institution, the community, as well as LATA. (this may be individual or Staff)
Clinical/Outreach Award - We will honor an athletic trainer that has represented our profession well in a clinic, or outreach environment. This venue of service enlightens the public to the many benefits of having an athletic trainer.
Bob Goodwin Award of Merit -One of the highest awards given to a member of the LATA Its purpose is to recognize the person that has worked for the State on a District or national level. It is a way to distinguish one who has brought honor and recognition to the LATA. A distinction reserved for the most able of professionals in the field of athletic training. The LATA Executive board renamed this award in honor of Bob Goodwin for his many contributions to the state , district and nationally as an Athletic Trainer.
Bubba Porche - College Student Award- This award is given for outstanding achievement to a current college student. The criteria is listed under the awards section and additional information needs to be submitted to latavicepresident@gmail.com
Eugene Christmas scholarship - Student currently enrolled in an accredited ATEP program are eligible. Letters should be submitted to lataeducationdirector@gmail.com.
Gordon Reynolds Outstanding Secondary School Athletic Trainer- The Gordon Reynolds Athletic Trainer Award is given to an athletic trainer whose primary responsibility is to provide medical services at the SECONDARY SCHOOL setting. In 2015, the LATA Executive Committee rededicated and renamed this award to honor Gordon's legacy of dedication, professionalism and high-quality of care provided to the high school student athlete.
