The 2013 Neighborhood Tree Steward Training is offered FREE of charge but participants must fill out the following application and agree to NTS service requirements.

Deadline now extended! Please complete and submit the following Neighborhood Tree Stewards application by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10th.

The Neighborhood Tree Steward Training is comprehensive urban forest volunteer training that includes seven classes taught by a number of professionals from various City bureaus, non-profits and private businesses.

Class dates and times:
1. Tuesday, September 17th 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
2. Saturday, September 21st 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
3. Saturday, September 28th 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
4. Tuesday, October 1st 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
5. Saturday, October 5th 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
6. Tuesday, October 8th 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
7. Saturday, October 19th 9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.

Locations:
Classes will meet at multiple locations throughout the city in order to showcase different areas of Portland’s urban forest. All locations will be accessible by public transportation. Location details will be emailed to all participants by the end of August.

Tree Steward Service Requirements:
Participants will be asked to commit to fulfilling a service agreement including 40 hours of urban forest related service with in a year (November 2013 – October 2014). Of those 44 hours Tree Stewards must attend one of their neighborhood association meetings, attend two continued education Urban Forest Workshops (equaling 6 hours). The remaining hours can be spent volunteering with existing urban forest volunteer programs (i.e. Street Tree Inventory, Friends of Trees, Portland Fruit Tree Project) and working on a neighborhood project.
