Thank you for your interest in our Student Volunteer Program. Any students interested in this competitive opportunity should be enrolled at a college/university pursuing a degree in meteorology or a related science (such as climatology, atmospheric science, etc.). This is an UNPAID position, but can become an important experience for an aspiring Meteorologist.
The primary goal of the student will be to conduct a mentored research project which will be presented to local NWS staff at the end of the summer. In addition, the volunteer program at NWS Wakefield will allow the student to become familiar with an NWS field office and assist in day to day operations. Please note that the volunteer will be expected to work 12-24 hours per week throughout the summer months.
Note that the student volunteer is expected to be in the office for much of the opportunity. This includes coming in during the late afternoon and evening to gain exposure to active severe weather operations.For more information on this opportunity, please see
