Join us: "fluidfrictions" by Lexie Owen (ART WALK / FLOAT)

fluidfrictions is a participatory knowledge production experiment that invites the public to explore ROMs watery neighbour - the Akerselva. Through a series of speculative workshops, the project explores the river from multiple perspectives, seeking to uncover points of friction between the human and nonhuman elements that constitute this particular place.

Starting at waterlevel, workshop participants, guided by project initiator Lexie Owen, will drift down the lower Akerselva in kayaks, ending their float at Sukkerbitten. Meandering back to ROM alongside the river, the small group of participants will be engaged in a reflective process thinking thought their own experience to uncover points of friction and tension in the river landscape. Speculating on friction as a productive force that is experienced both by humans and nonhumans, the project aims to find inclusive methods to approach expanded neighbourhood spaces in unconventional ways, considering both human and nonhuman elements as equal participants in the construction of place. The participatory research collected during fluidfrictions will form the basis of Owen’s further investigations into points of friction along the lower Akerselva.

Owen will be hosting workshops weekly over the course of the exhibition. The workshops are free and open to the public, but must be booked in advance. This project is made possible with generous support from Mad Goats Kayaking.

There are 5 available spots at each art walk, you will get a confirmation on email if you get the spot.
