Giving Voice Austin 2020 Side by Side Pairing Application
Thank you for your interest in Giving Voice Austin!
Art Spark Texas is partnering with AIGA Austin in this Side by Side program to empower young adults with disabilities ages 16-26 to give voice to a social cause. With your help, this project seeks to give students firsthand experience of collaborating and designing alongside a Creative Professional.

To begin the project all students will participate in a week-long Foundations in Design classes at Art Spark Texas where they will learn the tools for graphic design. Then Students will be matched with a graphic designer to meet for three Saturday sessions to research and design a poster that reflects their concerns on a specific social issue. Those posters will then be printed and exhibited at a one-day Giving Voice pop-up exhibition.

Though the outcome of this project is to create a finished poster, the goal is to engage students in the process of graphic design and cultivate an experience with a creative professional. Art Spark Texas staff and teaching artists will provide guidance and support you throughout the process.

We are asking for the following time commitment:
A short training session for tips on working with students with disabilities: Friday, March 20 from 2:30-4:00 pm
Three Pairing Sessions: Saturdays, March 21, March 28, April 4 from 12:00-1:30 pm
Poster Exhibition/Reception: Sunday, April 19 from 12:00-2:00 pm

The location is Art Spark Texas Classroom 101, 3710 Cedar Street, Austin, TX 78705. Exhibition location to be announced. Follow our Facebook Page for photos from previous pairings
