Be part of the Health Inequality Reporting Project
The Bureau Local is part of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, and is a network of journalists and citizens who explore inequalities in the UK at a local and systemic level. In the past, we have looked into housing and homelessness, domestic violence, and local authorities under financial pressure.
Our new health inequality project has been set up to investigate the systems, policies and practices that result in some people experiencing good health in the UK while others do not.
From postcode lotteries to people avoiding the medical system because of stigma or fear, from institutional biases to the impacts of austerity and profit-making — we will explore the infrastructure gaps, systemic obstacles and power disparities that make access to healthcare unequal for different groups of people.
We will also look at the disproportionate effects of coronavirus and the existing injustices it has exposed.
To do so, we will build a network of collaborators, including the people and communities affected, to dig deep, tell new stories and begin to redress the balance.
We would love you to join us, in whatever way suits you. We welcome everyone, including students and people who are currently unemployed.
