Graduate Sidekicks application 2015
The International Office seeks current (international and American) graduate students to volunteer as Graduate Sidekicks* for Spring-Fall 2015.
Graduate Sidekicks:
-serve as peer advisors and mentors to incoming graduate international students
-communicate with a small group of incoming students prior to their arrival at NU
-assist the International Office with Graduate International Student Orientation (G-ISO; 9/16/15)
-plan social events for new students leading up to G-ISO
-write and maintain a blog guiding new students with their transition to life in the U.S. and at NU
-network with current and incoming graduate students from many different countries and academic programs
Responsibilities:
• Attend Spring 2015 training session, spring/summer social events and G-ISO social events
• Participate in 1 of 3 Graduate Sidekick teams (Media/Advice/Events)
• Have reliable email access over the summer and respond to emails from IO/Team Leader
• Email with assigned students in Graduate Sidekicks group
• Serve on Student Panel/lead other sessions at G-ISO 2015 (Sept 16, 2015)
• Attend Fall Quarter events with Graduate Sidekicks group
• Participate in feedback focus group during Fall Quarter
*Sidekick (noun, informal): a close friend or assistant, who accompanies another on adventures.
Some famous sidekicks: Robin (sidekick to Batman), Ron and Hermione (to Harry Potter), Woodstock (to Snoopy), Joe Biden (to Barack Obama).
