In-Appropriate: Native American Stereotypes in Popular Culture

Co-Sponsored: Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection & the American Indian Student Union

Led by Artist Frank Buffalo Hyde (Onondaga/Nez Perce)
Thursday, April 11th @ 5:00 p.m.

Where does “cool” cross the line and become offensive? When celebrities Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg and the Victoria’s Secret models donned Indian war bonnets and headdresses, they did more than ruffle a few feathers. Artist Frank Buffalo Hyde (Onondaga/Nez Perce) will share his work and discuss how the use of Native American imagery can reinforce stereotypes and do real damage.

Location information will be sent to participants!
