On December 16th, The Kyiv Independent will present a new documentary, “Can You Hear Me? The Invisible Battles of Ukrainian Military Medics”. The film screening in Norway will take place at kino Vika Movie Theater: (Ruseløkkveien 14, 0251 Oslo). Start screening at 18:00 (doors open at 17:30)
The film’s authors Francis Farrell and Olena Zashko followed a group of Ukrainian military medics as they journeyed from the heat of battle in war-torn Ukraine to the serene forests of Sweden for a short mental health retreat. As they find themselves in a peaceful, quiet environment in Sweden for the first time since 2022, the medics have a chance to process the accumulated trauma, opening up about losing brothers-in-arms, surviving Russian captivity, and the inescapable feeling of guilt for not being able to save some of the soldiers they treated.
The film will be screened in Ukrainian with English subtitles, followed by a discussion with the co-authors of the film. The film’s premiere will be held in partnership with Repower Charitable Organisation with the support of The Swedish Embassy in Norway, The Ukrainian Embassy in Norway, Norges Veteranforbund for Internasjonale Operasjoner.
