Disaster Legal Services (DLS) Hotline: intake volunteer sign-up form
Please fill out this form to volunteer to answer the NCBA Disaster Legal Services hotline (conducting intake only -- volunteers are not expected to provide legal advice or counsel).

During the shift times for which you sign up, the DLS Hotline will be forwarded to the phone number that you provide. Volunteers can expect to receive 3-6 calls per hour; each call/intake lasts about 10 minutes.

Volunteers must be available to answer the phone at the number provided during the entire 2-hour shift. There is no "roll over" coverage on the Hotline; if a volunteer does not answer the call, the caller will end up in the volunteer's personal voicemail box (which is not ideal).

Volunteers must be at a computer during the entire 2-hour shift in order to fill out the online intake form for each caller (additional information, as well as the link to the intake form, will be provided in a confirmation email).

Please provide the phone number (whether cell or office line) that you will be using to answer the hotline calls. Note: the number you provide will not be broadcasted to the public. Your phone number will only be used internally to reroute the Hotline calls to your phone. Once your shift is over, the Hotline will reroute to the next shift volunteer's phone number and your number will no longer receive calls from the Hotline. On your caller ID, Hotline calls will display as "NC Bar Association".
