"Booleggin" and "culture appropriation" in NYC developed into an entire economy in China
New York City is home to the highest Chinese-American population of any city, with an estimated 573,388 Chinese-Americans in New York City. When some Chinese immigrants settled in NYC low income communities that were predominantly Black, they were welcomed by the Black community. African Americans shared their culture and supported Chinese businesses.
Many Chinese merchants (men and women) began to duplicate popular Black artist in America, and eventually Chinese manufacturing sweatshops began to mass produce or "bootleg" the popular Black artist in America. These Chinese merchants sold so much of this music, culture and products that China itself was heavily influenced to imitate the culture in their own native language and style.
China has benefitted economically from Chinese merchants that returned to China to mass produce Black American products. China has also benefitted economically from taxing popular Chinese Hip-Hop rappers, dancers and Hip-Hop entrepreneurs in a country defined by Communism.
New York City creation of Hip-Hop has permeated China ad campaigns for products and services. Just think, Hip-Hop has created an entire economy for China, simply because Chinese people were welcomed into the Black community in the United States.
