Galicia's Promised City with Oskar Czendze

Between 1890 and 1914, tens of thousands of Jews from Galicia—the easternmost crownland of the Habsburg Empire—made New York City their new home. Yet their distinct experience has often been overshadowed by national narratives centered on migration from the Russian Empire. Oskar Czendze (University of Toronto) will explores how Galician Jews carried forms of regional and supranational belonging shaped in East Central Europe into New York.
