Thank you for your interest in the Meet the Users Speaker Series event with Daniel Dix! This upcoming event will take place on Wednesday,
May 15, from 12 to 1 PM EST. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is conducting a National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) Meet the Users Speaker Series to connect NOAA staff to the wider NOAA product user community. NESDIS designed the Speaker Series as a collaborative enterprise to both expand NOAA's awareness of the NOAA product user community and explore NOAA staff members' own projects.
Daniel Dix, a meteorologist at Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, researches smoke, dust, and aerosols to better understand their impact on the environment and human health, develop effective strategies for air pollution control, and contribute to the formulation of sound environmental policies. Daniel and his team utilize data from a variety of NOAA sources and satellites, including Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES)-R, National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts, and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) to identify severe storms, locating wildfire hotspots, and enhance air quality monitoring in rural and Tribal areas across Minnesota.
