We, the undersigned, support Seattle's bid to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Literature.

We approve of Seattle City of Literature's mission statement, as follows:

"Seattle City of Literature manages public and private partnerships, both within our city and abroad, to grow and promote a robust creative economy. We intend to engineer a renaissance in writing, publishing, and book distribution in Seattle that will galvanize the city's readers and writers and honor the world's diverse literary traditions."

We also recognize that inclusion in the Creative Cities Network will create opportunities for international partnerships in the six other artistic disciplines recognized by UNESCO: Music, Film, Craft and Folk Art, Media Art, Design, and Gastronomy. The City of Literature designation is just the beginning. Our inclusion in this growing network will benefit all of Seattle's creative industries through global partnerships and initiatives.

We urge our fellow Seattleites to join us in our support, and we urge the City of Seattle to provide the necessary resources, including applicable funds, to secure and maintain this internationally respected designation.
