APPLICATION AND VIDEO SUBMISSION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 13, 2024
IMPORTANT! ENTER INFORMATION FOR THE MUSIC COMPETITION.
• The competition is open to high school students who live in Coronado or attend school in Coronado (or both).
• The competition is limited to instrumentalists (All musical instruments except voice are permitted. An accompanist is allowed.
• The competition is open to the performance of any genre of music (classical, jazz, modern, ethnic, etc.) including an original composition.
• The audition for the club-level competition is by video submission.
- The performer is expected to introduce themselves and describe their selected piece of music.
- The selected musical piece must be between 3 to 8 minutes long. A displayed timer on the video is expected. Check out the guide on best practices on recording a music video on a mobile device.
- The video should be uploaded on the Coronado Rotary website (Dropbox).
- Deadline is December 13th, 2024.
• A review committee will select up to four contestants to compete at the club-level competition no later than January 5th, 2025.
• The Coronado Club competition is on January 31st at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club during the regular meeting (12 – 1:30 p.m.).
Awards are as follows:
- First place: $200
- Second Place: $175
- Runner Up: $50
- First and Second-place winners are invited to compete at the regional level in March.
The regional competition is usually held in March. That date and location are not yet set. The winner receives a $500 award and advances to the final competition at District 5340. Regional performers who do not advance to the finals will receive a cash award.
District 5340 Final Competition is held in April. Those dates are not yet set. The district final winner will receive a $2000 cash scholarship. The three runners-up will each receive a $500 cash scholarship.
Judging
Musical ability, Tone Quality/Intonation (25%): Familiarity and command of the instrument.
Musical empathy, Technique (25%): Note accuracy, attacks, release, articulations, rhythmic accuracy and precision.
Interpretation (25%): Concept of style, tempo, phrasing and dynamics.
Stage Presence (25%): Command of the stage (area of performance) sense of rapport with the audience, overall presentation, and showmanship.
