ViệtUnity South Bay is partnering with the City of San José's Office of Immigrant Affairs to build leaders for our current and upcoming generations of Vietnamese Americans. We envision a strong pipeline of multigenerational and multilingual leaders who are actively engaged in the political processes of San José.
Civic Leaders Academy for Vietnamese Americans is a seven workshop series on the most pressing issues in the Vietnamese American community and how you can address them with your local community and at City Hall. Workshop topics include: gender justice, racism, housing, education, immigration and deportation, and more. A small gift stipend will be provided upon completion of the program with full attendance. We will have presentations from local community organizers in the Bay Area as well as from city officials in various departments.
Participants will walk away with: 1) Understanding of the issues we face in the Vietnamese community in San José2) Knowledge on the resources that our city government offers 3) Connections to efforts with local organizations already working to address these issues
Workshops take place every Saturday from March 3 - April 14 from 10:00am-12:30pm. Lunch is provided. Program will be conducted in English with a Vietnamese interpreter. Child supervision provided. No age limit, but must be at least high school age.
