Black Representation: Authoring STEM Stories for Climate Risk Preparedness (BlackRep4Kids) is a National Science Foundation-funded project led by Knology, in collaboration with the Highlights Foundation, the National Black Child Development Institute, and the Association of Children’s Museums. The project’s goal is to create a community of practice for Black researchers and practitioners from a variety of fields (including climate science, developmental psychology, informal learning, and children’s media) that guides the creation of climate-centered STEM storyworlds directed at young Black audiences that revolve around themes of joy, care, and hope. With this, the project aims to affirm “Black livingness in an anti-Black world” (Nxumalo & Ross, 2019), explore concepts of Black futurity, and center Black belonging, knowledge, and dreams in climate and environmental education for a sustainable world.

Raising public awareness about your issue: many issues that can be confusing, scary, or unclear to people can be explained best by those who have personal experience with them

Increasing your project’s visibility: we can leverage our ongoing outreach through promoting the Podcast, the Resource Library, the pre-Unconference activities, and UnConference promotion and registration

Increasing public understanding of the project: if you find that the public doesn't seem to have a good understanding of what your group is and what you do, this speaker’s-bureau-like roster can help clarify misconceptions and educate people about the purpose, services, and activitieson 3
