dear all, today, right now, we must find out how much environmental damage has actually been done already . if you do not measure the
quantum of negative impacts, you may never attempt to mitigate or abate the
long-term consequence to our planet.
This course will provide students with an
opportunity to calculate the net environmental impact in monetary terms. The
standard theoretical model is explained, and a database is analyzed to arrive
at the gross volume of greenhouse emissions. Further, the associated loss
impact due to, for example, drop in food grain production and consumption, loss
in productivity, human mortality and health impact, etc. The negative outcomes
are elaborated to the students by means of measuring the changes to food or non
food consumption, industrial output, degree of illness, loss of livestock, and
loss of biodiversity. These changes are translated into monetary terms and
reported in the form of a single number, which is called the net present value.
The Net Present Value is reported ahead for the future. In this course, we will
explain the exact calculation steps and the details using the most commonly
available and handy desktop tool, which is your familiar windows Microsoft
Excel. This excel calculator is also shared with the students.
